There are roof cleaning contractors that are springing all over the place in order to address the growing problem of algae stains that trouble many homeowners. However, it is always good to know that not all people doing this work are professionals who use the right roof cleaning methods. Some of the most important factors you must look for when searching for the right roof cleaning contractor include:

Non-pressure methods: The Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association recommends the use of non-pressure roof cleaning methods for the removal of roof stains. High pressure roof cleaning methods may be effective in removing stains but they also remove the protective granules from the shingles as well. In most cases the contractor will only require to use no pressure roof cleaning methods with the correct mix of eco-friendly chemicals; this is he safest, fastest and most effective method for removing those ugly black algae stains. The only exception could be those very old roofs that are covered by a thick mat of green moss.

Liability insurance: You must also make sure that the roof cleaning contractor has the correct type of liability insurance. No matter what service the contractor is offering; don’t hesitate to double check their liability coverage. No pressure roof cleaning requires expertise and some delicate balancing acts and, as such, you don’t want to take risks with someone who is not properly insured to do this kind of work.

Expertise: Get a roof cleaning contractor who knows the importance of full roof wash and not just the black streaks and spots that are visible to the naked eye; the presence of some visible stains is a sign that the algae has spread on the roof and it’s only a matter of time before it appears on the entire roof. You don’t want someone who will make the mistake of doing spot cleaning because you will see the stains all over the roof again in a short time.

Credibility: Don’t forget to check the credibility and reliability of the roof cleaning contractor with your local Better Business Bureau; you may also want to ask them for a few references that you can contact to find out how credible they are.
