Where You Need To Call A Commercial Electrician

Any commercial building is completely different from your typical house and, as a result, it needs the skills of a commercial electrician whenever there are issues. When there is any electrical wiring work that should be done in any public building, there are state regulations that dictate the need to hire a licensed commercial electrician. There are a few ways in which such an expert is different from your typical residential electrician in terms of expertise and duties.

Industrial buildings are considered municipal structures and are therefore under a completely different set of regulations, rules, and codes whereas your home doesn’t need to meet that level of safety and durability standards. There are different aspects of public structures such as doorways, hallways, and bathrooms; all these amenities must be made in such a way that they are accessible to persons with disabilities by way of their sizes, slope and maneuverability. All such constructions that are to be used as public places must be made accessible to everyone.

The other important safety component of any public building is fire safety; there are fire alarms to be set and they must meet very strict codes and regulations so as to protect the general public; commercial electricians or electrical contractor must be knowledgeable on all these safety components as a matter of fact. Commercial buildings may also require the installation of an emergency back-up lighting which only a trained and qualified tradesperson can have the skills to accomplish. There are very strict codes of regulation that commercial electricians must follow when installing the wiring, circuit panels and breakers in office buildings.

In situations where zoning allows buildings that were formally residential to get converted into public structures such as a dentist’s suite, a day care center, a storefront or an office space, such an area has to be brought up to code by putting in place the appropriate standards to cope with the new use. A commercial electrician will come in to convert the electrical wiring so it can measure up to the more stringent codes such as installing a fire safety system and ensuring the wiring is up to the new standard.
